There are several excellent online resources for Art Galleries and Museums that can be shared with communities, depending on what type of art and engagement you’re looking for. Here are some great options that we are sharing with you here:
General Art Galleries and Museums
Google Arts and Culture
Google Arts and Culture offers a vast collection of high-resolution artwork from museums and cultural institutions around the world. One of its most impressive features is the ability to take virtual tours of renowned galleries and historic sites. It truly captures the feeling of being there without being there, allowing you to explore global art and culture from your own space while helping you decide which destinations you may want to experience in person one day. This platform is exceptional for historical, educational, and cultural art appreciation.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art (The Met) – Open Access
The Met’s Open Access initiative provides free access to an extensive and ever-growing collection of public-domain artworks. This resource is invaluable for educators, students, creators, and art enthusiasts who want unrestricted access to high-quality images and detailed information from one of the world’s most respected museums.
The Louvre Online Collections
To call this a favorite would be an understatement. The Louvre’s online collection allows visitors to explore its iconic artifacts, paintings, and sculptures at their own pace. Having visited in person multiple times and planning to do so again, we can confidently say this experience is exceptional. And unlike an in-person visit, no one will ask you to leave when the museum closes.
Creative Platforms for Artists
Behance
Behance, powered by Adobe, is a professional portfolio platform featuring high-quality work across illustration, graphic design, photography, motion graphics, and more. It’s particularly useful for those interested in the intersection of creativity and professional design.
ArtStation
ArtStation serves as a central hub for digital artists, concept artists, and 3D designers. It is widely used in the gaming, film, and entertainment industries and offers a strong look into the future of digital creativity.
A Note on NFTs and Blockchain Art: In what we’ll call our “geek portion” of sharing, there is also the expanding world of NFT art creative works tied to blockchain technology and cryptocurrency. This space is evolving rapidly, and while it may not be for everyone, it represents a new frontier in how art is owned, distributed, and valued. Be sure to explore the NFT category listed to the left of this article. This is an area we are actively watching and will continue to expand upon as it develops.
Art Inspiration and Curation
Pinterest is a visually driven platform ideal for curating and sharing collections of artwork. It’s a powerful tool for inspiration, mood boards, and creative discovery across countless artistic styles.
Instagram Art Hashtags and Profiles
Instagram remains one of the easiest ways to discover contemporary artists especially those who are still emerging. Simply searching hashtags such as #DigitalArt, #FineArt, #Illustration, or #AbstractArt can lead you to incredible creators who may not yet be widely known.
Community-Based Art Sharing
Reddit–r/Art
We have been genuinely impressed by the breadth and quality of art resources now available to the public. Never before have there been so many avenues and mediums making artistic expression, appreciation, and discovery so widely accessible. These platforms continue to break down barriers and invite more people into the world of art.
